His research work is focused on Geographic Information Science and development of geospatial software tools that interconnects heterogeneous sensors for innovative applications. Steve has been an invited speaker at universities and industries in 11 countries. In the past five years, he received more than $2.5 million research grants. In 2013, Steve was chosen one of Calgary's Top 40 Under 40. He also received the Schulich School of Engineering's Department Early Research Excellence Award as well as the Research Excellence Award. When Steve is not working, he loves snowboarding, hiking, and watching legal and political TV dramas with his wife.
